VETERANS OF INDIAN WARS WILL RECEIVE PENSIONS

Bill Providing Relief for Warriors and Their Widows Becomes a Law

WASHINGTON - The Bill providing for the pensioning of Indian war veterans and their widows who served from 1859 to 1891, which passed both branches of congress in May last, but has been held up in the conference committee since that time, was finally enacted during the closing days of congress and received the president's approval before the adjournment.  Congressman Smith has arranged with the commissioner of pensions to send blank applications for the benefits of this law to nearly 100 Indian war veterans and widows of such veterans in Idaho.  A pension of $20 per month is allowed the soldiers, and $12 to the widows.
