John Adkison Services Today

John Ellsworth Adkison, 73, died July 30 at the Syringa General Hospital at Grangeville after a prolonged illness.  He was born at Grangeville June 3, 1903, the son of Mr. and Mrs.. Henry Adkison.  He received his education at Grangeville.

He later moved to Montana and worked on several construction jobs and was shop foreman at the Ft. Peck Dam construction in Montana.  In 1939 he was loaned to the U.S. Army for construction of air fields in Panama and Guatemala.  He returned to Grangeville in 1946 and followed the Carpenter and Millwright welder trades and was secretary of the Local Carpenters Union when it was instituted at Grangeville.  In 1962 the Adkisons moved to Yakima, Wash. where they lived for twelve years, returning to Grangeville two years ago.

Adkison was united in marriage to Thelma Jones June 15, 1952 at Lewiston, Idaho.  Adkison was a member since the age of 14 of the Grangeville First Christian Church; Masonic Lodge at Selah, Wash.; Past patron of the Nile Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star at Selah; Mt. Queen Chapter  Order of Eastern Star at Grangeville; Shrine, York Rite; Knights Templar; Abou Saad Temple, Balboa, Panama Canal Zone; Member of White Shrine of Jerusalem Messiah Shrine Yakima, Wash.; and Sunrise Court, Order of amaranth, Yakima.

Surviving besides his widow, Thelma at the family home in Grangeville is a step-daughter, Beverlee Wright of Spokane, Wash.; three step grandsons; an aunt and uncle and several cousins.

Funeral services for John E. Adkison will be held today, August 4, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hansen-Noland Funeral Home in Grangeville with the Rev. Jack Pinkley of the Grangeville First Christian Church, officiating, with graveside services following at the Prairie View Cemetery with Mt. Idaho Lodge #9 AF & AM officiating.
