A SHOCKING DEATH

Mr. John Breen Sr., of Cottonwood, arrived at Lewiston last Friday, bring the shocking news that his eldest son, John, had been crushed to death while coupling cars on the Northern Pacific railroad, at Hope, Idaho.  It is not definitely known how the accident happened, but the young man was caught in the buffers of the two cars between the shoulders and literally crushed flat.  He lived only twenty minutes after the accident and was incensible.  He was twenty three years of age and a hard working, steady man, and leave a young wife behind him, to whom he was married to only last fall.  His mother left for Lewiston Saturday, where she was met by her husband, and together they proceeded back to Hope, where Mr. Breen hoped to break the sad news to her of the untimely death of her son.  Mr. Breen Sr., assisted by his son's wife, have been running a large hotel at Hope, and have acquired considerable property in mines and real estate and will continue the business.  He will meantime retain his large estate at Cottonwood, and will return occasionally to visit it and his neighbors.  The youngest boy is at school at Spokane Falls.
