GORDON - in Grangeville, Idaho, Marcy 22, 1887.  Arthur H. Gordon, aged 45 years, 8 mos.  Mr. Gordon was born in Boston, Mass. and came to this coast many years ago.  He was postmaster here for seven years.  Two months ago he was attacked with bilious fever, he recovered so as to be around for 2 days and then relapsed and gradually wasted away.  Having been insensible for several days before death.  He leaves a wife and four children, the youngest a child in arms.  He was a man of more than ordinary attainments and ability, and with closer application to talents with which he was endowed, would with proper cultivation have won him a lofty public position.  He held pronounced opinions on all current issues and made many friends in his long residence here.  But "De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum" - speak nothing but good of the dead - is a maxim appropriate to the occasion.  He is now done with the trials of earth and let us hope that with all the countless dead he is better off.  A wise man once said, "A thing as universal as death must be a blessing" and the dictum carries with it its own consolation.  The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon amid a congregation of the friends of the family.
