FIVE OF FAMILY DROWN IN RIVER

RIGGINS, Idaho –

A family of five, including three children, drowned Sunday when a jet boat capsized in the rough and remote Salmon River 32 miles east of here.  One woman made it to shore, the Idaho County sheriff’s office reported Monday.

Three other relatives watched the tragedy from the shore.  The party camped on a sandbar overnight and was located and rescued Monday, deputies said.

The victims were identified as  Michael (Lucky) McKenney, 42, McCall, Idaho; his mother, Mrs. Edith McKenney Wade, 68, Fullerton, Calif.; and three small children, Ross, Deborah and Michael Jr..  McKenney’s wife, Gloria, 38, managed to swim through rapids to shore.
