53 Funeral
services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Robertson-Hanson Funeral Chapel
for Alvis Oliver Newby, 53, who died February 11 at his home in
Grangeville. Rev. A.J. Stott of the Nazerene Church officiated. Burial was
in Prairie View Cemetery. Mr. Newby
was born the son of Mr. and Mrs. Zimiriah Newby. When he was a small child the
family moved to Lewiston, Idaho. Mr. Newby worked on a cattle ranch for a time
near Anatone, Wa. Later he moved to Orofino and then to Grangeville where he has
resided the past 29 years. On November 18, 1929, he married Anna Mason at
Lewiston. His
survivors included the widow, Anna, at home; five sons, Richard, U.S. Army,
Korea; John, U.S. Army, Formosa; Steven, at the home; Frank, Pullman, and
Marvin, Grangeville; eight daughters, Mrs. Betty Cornett, Grangeville; Mrs.
Barbara Griffith, Tacoma; Mrs. David Spencer, Moscow; Mary Alice, Sharon,
Patricia, Kathleen, and Nancy, all at home. One brother, Ben, in Washington
state; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Taylor, Lewiston; Mrs. Elvina Skinner, Kellogg,
and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers
for Mr. Newby were Justin Warden, Warren Parks, L.E. Rice, Ralph Nutting, Don
Perry, and Henry Brugeman. Mrs. Esther
VonBargen sang the sacred music and accompanied herself on the organ.
