Elk City Man Ends Life With Revolver

Grangeville, Dec. 27 - Word was received here last night at the sheriff's office that H.A. Sweeny had allegedly taken his life at his farm near Elk City.  Sheriff Bud Taylor and Coroner Glenn Ailor investigated and reported that Sweeny had shot himself in the temple with a 38 caliber revolver, the bullet going through his head and lodging in the ceiling of his cabin.  Sweeney lived about an hour after the shooting.  Neighbors could give no explanation for Mr. Sweeny's act other than that he was despondent over ill health and did not want to return to the county hospital where he had been a patient the last year.

(Buried at Elk City IOOF Cemetery)
