John Von Bargen, Former Resident, passes at 64

John Von Bargen, a former Grangeville resident, died April 24 at Cadillac, Michigan, of a heart attack.  He was 64.  He was born to Herman and Freida Von Bargen at Fenn, and grew up there and at Grangeville.  He graduated from University of Idaho in forestry in the early 1930's.  He served with the US Forest Service in Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan, where he was supervisor of the Manistee National Forest until his retirement five years ago.

He married his first wife, Jessie in 1939 and she died in the late 1960's.  He is survived by his widow Esta, of Cadillac; a son, John Von Bargen Jr., in Vermont; a daughter Mary Frederick of Cadillac; a half brother, Walter Von Bargen of Grangeville; and two grandchildren.
