James Wilson, 81

James William “Jim” Wilson, 81, longtime Riggins resident, died Friday, June 23, 1995, at Boise Care Center of natural causes.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, July 1, in the multipurpose room of Salmon River High School in Riggins.  Ace Barton will give the eulogy.  Cremation is under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home, Boise.

Jim was born Jan. 17, 1914, in Burns, Ore., the first child of Leonard William “Pete” Wilson and Ethel Belle Couch Wilson.  The first year and a half of his life was spent on the family homestead on Wagontire Mountain near Burns.  The family then took their small herd of cattle and moved in two wagons back north to the Imnaha River.  Soon thereafter the family moved to Saddle Creek in Hells Canyon where Jim’s parents raised cattle for the next 20 years in one of the more remote and picturesque areas of the country.  Jim’s early schooling was at small country schools in the Canyon, sometimes five or six miles one way by horse over Canyon trails.  He attended high school in Enterprise, Ore.
