X-CONVICT WOUNDS THREE THEN KILLS HIMSELF BECAUSE SWEETHEART WOULD NOT MARRY HIM

Grangeville, Idaho, March 11 – Clarice Walker shot and fatally wounded Miss Helen Beck, the girl’s mother; Mrs. Sophia Beck, and Marshal William Brown, and then thrusting the revolver in his own mouth, shot himself through the head, dying instantly.

Walker had secured a marriage license with the intention of marrying Miss Beck, and on her refusal to do so he secured a revolver and went to the girl’s house.

Mrs. Beck, becoming alarmed at Walker’s actions, called Marshall Brown by telephone.  As soon as Brown stepped inside Walker began firing, shooting Brown through the arm.  He then turned and shot Mrs. Beck through the arm.  Miss Beck next received a bullet through the left breast, the ball coming out through her back.

The fourth shot was fired at a b bystander, but it went wild.  Walker turned the weapon on himself and fired a bullet through his brain.  He died instantly.  Walker came to Grangeville recently from California, where he had served a four year term in the San Quentin penitentiary.  He had been corresponding with Miss Beck, who was a former sweetheart.
