JOHN E. BAFFICO
JOHN EDWARD BAFFICO, 21, died Friday night of an apparent heart attack while
jogging near his home near Fenn.
He was born October 10, 1962 at San Francisco to Edward and Margery Baffico. He
attended elementary school there and moved to Grangeville in 1976, graduating
from Grangeville High School in 1980.
He attended Walla Walla Community College on a football scholarship for a year
and a half, then receiving a scholarship at Cal State University at Fresno. He
attended the University the spring semester of 1983 and planned to return this
fall.
He was a member of the 1979 all-conference football team and received honorable
mention in 1980 for the All Conference Community College Football Team and the
NWAACC All Stars.
Also in 1982, he led his team in tackles for minus yardage and was second in
quarterback sacks and total tackles.
He was selected by his peers as the Most Valuable Defensive Player at WWCC.
In January of 1983, he was recruited by several universities and selected for a
full ride scholarship to Cal State Fresno University.
He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include his mother at Fenn; his father at San Francisco; his sister,
Gina Baffico-Erickson of Pullman; maternal grandparents, Marie and Richard
Hauger Sr. of Fenn; and paternal grandmother, Adele Baffico of San Francisco.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at he Denver Cemetery, north of Fenn, with
the Rev. Dennis Falk of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, officiating. Also
participating was Charles Hopkins.
The John Baffico Memorial Fund has been established at First Security Bank,
Grangeville, to finance a sports scholarship at WWCC. The family suggests any
memorial donations be given to it.
