SATURDAY RITE FOR J. BALDWIN
Kooskia - James Alfred Baldwin, 87, died of a heart attack
September 15, at his home on Tahoe Ridge.
He worked for the U.S. Forest Service during summers for many years, and with
threshing crews. He also drove the stage from Stites to Grangeville.
He was born July 21, 1884, in Jackson County, Kentucky. The family settled in
Wyoming for a year before going to Willamette, Ore., and then moving to Idaho.
Mr. Baldwin homesteaded on Clear Creek near Kooskia and also lived at
Grangeville, Kooskia and Cedar Creek.
Mr. Baldwin was married to Ella Sense in 1902. She died August 13, 1948. He
married Mary Yates June 6, 1953 at Asotin. She survives at the family home.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Baldwin, Stites, Fred Baldwin, Lewiston; five
daughters, Mrs. Edna Naylor, Osborn; Mrs. Edward (Nellie) Smolinski, Weippe;
Mrs. Harvey (Della) Renshaw, Osborn; Mrs. Gerald (Esther) James, Newport, Ore.,
and Mrs. Arthur (Dorothy) Wirth, Bend, Ore.; a brother, John R. Baldwin,
Lewiston; a sister, Mrs. Ernest (Bertha) Heter, Grangeville; three step
children, Mrs. Joe (Edna) Campbell, Stites; Mrs. Richard (Louise) Bullock,
Grangeville, and Robert Yates, Molalla, Ore; 18 grandchildren, 26
great-grandchildren and seven step grandchildren. The funeral was Saturday in
Trenary's Chapel with burial in Tahoe cemetery. Rev. Mark Carlton, Kooskia
Pentecostal Church of God pastor, officiated.
Music and hymns were by Mrs. Mark Carlton and Mrs. Eldon Bomley, Kamiah.
Pallbearers were James Baldwin, Dan Baldwin, both of Elk City, Leo Baldwin,
Norman Baldwin, Leonard Baldwin and Jeff Baldwin, all of Kooskia.
