Donald L. Fine, 87, GrangevilleSunday, May 11, 2003 Donald L. (Don) Fine, 87, passed away Monday, May 5, 2003, at Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was a longtime resident of Kamiah. Don was born Aug. 28, 1915, in Peck to Harry and Ozellia Bloodsworth Fine. He grew up in the Peck area and always lived in the Clearwater Valley. He was a truck driver and a logger. He can be seen in photographs in National Geographic magazine when they featured the log drives from this area. He was also on the final log drive on the North Fork and Clearwater rivers to Lewiston. Don loved to hunt and fish and in his later years he enjoyed flowers, gardening and canning. He was known for his strong coffee and homemade dill pickles. He knew no strangers. Don married Edna Knutson Feb. 15, 1941, and they later divorced. Don and Edna had four children. On Dec. 24, 1969, Don married Edith Grove. After her death in 1997, Don's health declined. Don was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Crawford; two brothers, Mervil (Merv) and William (Burl); and two sisters, Arloene (Arnie) Eby and Eloise Ball. He is survived by his daughters, Darlene Fine Cannon of Grangeville, Mary Ellen Sater of Lewiston and Donna Wilson of Joseph, Ore.; his brother, Deryle (Dude) Fine of Orofino; his sister, Tillie Smith of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, with two on the way. A graveside service followed by inurnment will be held at Kamiah Cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under direction of Trenary Funeral Home in Kooskia.
