LEWISTON TRIBUNE OBITUARYJune Gauss, 82, GrangevilleSaturday, November 1, 2003 June Gauss, 82, of Grangeville passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at the Grangeville Health and Rehabilitation Center of causes related to age. She was born Sept. 5, 1921, at Stites, a daughter of Travis B. and Georgia Sense York. She was raised in the Elk City and Red River areas and attended schools in various places. June married LeRoy McKay and they later divorced. She married Harry Gauss Dec. 14, 1957, at Grangeville. Together they farmed and raised prize livestock near the Tolo Lake area until their retirement. Mr. Gauss passed away in 1993. June was known as an outstanding horsewoman. She rode and broke horses all her life. She founded the Rough Rider's 4-H Horse Club and received many leader awards. She was also a charter member of the Idaho County Cowbelles. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, her family, friends, grandkids and great-grandkids. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by five daughters, Pat Young and husband D.R. of Malo, Wash., Eva Wilson and husband Phil of Diamondville, Wyo., Barb Johnson and husband Allen of Kamiah, Jeannie Morris and husband Brent of Fenn and Judy Nelson of Lewiston; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. June was preceded in death by her husband and is the last of eight children of the Travis B. York family. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home followed by burial at Prairie View Cemetery in Grangeville. |
