RICHARD H. HAUGER, 91
RICHARD HENRY HAUGER, 91, a Fenn area rancher and cattleman, and life long
resident of Idaho County, died July 6, 1991 at he Idaho County Nursing Home of
causes related to age.
He was born September 27, 1899 in Grangeville, to Edward and Helena Von Berge
Hauger, and was raised by his grandparents, the John F. Von Berge's, at their
homestead near Fenn, which he continued to farm until his retirement. He
attended schools near Fenn and later attended the University of Idaho. He and
Marie Rojan were married January 6, 1929 at Sandpoint, Idaho.
Mr. Hauger raised one of the finest registered Hereford herds in Idaho County,
and was active in 4-H work. He raised quarter horses as a hobby and was selected
Grand Marshall of Grangeville Border Days in 1959. He was an early member of the
Idaho County Cattlemen's Association and served one term as State Director of
the ICA. He was a school board member for 20 years, a member of the Fenn Highway
District board, and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife at the family ranch home; three sons, Richard Jr.,
Jon, and Paul of Grangeville; five daughters, Joan Wren of Boise; Margery
Baffico, Janet Shira and Nancy Marek of Grangeville, and Adele Woodworth of
Brigham City, Utah; 28 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren; a sister, Della
Basinger of Pacifica, CA; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 9, 1991, at the Noland Funeral Home,
Grangeville. Rev. Robert Korytkowski, of the Trinity Lutheran Church,
officiated. Burial will follow in Prairie View Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the Syringa General Hospital Memorial Fund.
Services were under the direction of the Noland Funeral Home.
