MELISSA L. MEYER MELISSA L. MEYER, died Saturday morning, March 12, 1988, of
pneumonia, at the Grangeville Convalescent Center where she had lived for the
past seven years.
She was born May 6, 1896 at Kalispell, Montana, to Milan and Florinda Conant.
She attended school at Kalispell before the family moved to a ranch two miles
south of Fenn. Idaho in 1908, where she attended the VonBargen school. She also
attended school at Colton where she boarded.
The family moved to a ranch at Enterprise, Oregon, in 1915. She married France
Meyer June 4, 1916 at Enterprise.
The couple moved to the family ranch near Fenn, Idaho, where they lived the rest
of their lives. Her husband died in 1977 and she moved to the nursing home in
1981.
She was a charter member of Charity Grange #294. She enjoyed gardening and fancy
needlework, for which she won a top award in the national Grange contest with a
hardanger tablecloth.
She also won a State Grange contest for crocheting and numerous awards at county
fairs. She and her husband were avid square dancers.
Survivors include two sons; Kenneth Meyer of Grangeville, and Jack Meyer of Fenn;
a daughter, Evalyn Johnson of Nezperce; a sister, Jereine Peter of Kennewick;
seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A
brother and sister died previously. Memorial services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at
Noland Funeral Home in Grangeville. The Rev. Kenneth Carlson of the United
