Kaufmann Romain, 89, a long-time Great Falls MT resident, died Thursday in a
Cottonwood, Idaho hospital.
She was born in Green Creek , IL , and attended schools in that state, moving to
Idaho when she was 12 years old. Her family farmed near Cottonwood , Idaho ,
where she married Fred Romain in 1908. They operated a general store at
Keuterville , Idaho , until 1913 when the couple came to Marias where they
farmed for 35 years, moving to Great Falls in 1948. He operated a ranch at
Augusta until his death in 1956 and she lived here until 1975 when she went to
Cottonwood to make her home with a daughter, Lena Hoene.
Surviving with Mrs. Magdalena (Gus) Hoene are another daughter, Delores (Irvin)
Hutchison, Chester; six sons, Bernard of Grangeville, Idaho; Lawrence of Great
Falls, MT; Clarence and Raymond, both of Chester, MT; Alfred of Lompoc, Calif.,
and John, Whitefish, MT; brothers Anthony Kaufmann, Lawrence Kaufmann and
Ferdinand Kaufmann, all of Lewiston, Idaho; sisters Mrs. (Katherine) Peter
Seubert and Mrs. (Elizabeth) Gust Seubert, both of Marathon, Wisc.; Mrs. (Mary)
Morris Sipes and Mrs. (Anna)William Hagen, both of Tacoma, Wash.; 27
grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, January 11th at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church,
Cottonwood . The body will be brought to Great Falls where committal services
will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Manchester Cemetery with the OConnor Funeral
Home handling local arrangements.
