IDAHO COUNTY FREE PRESS FRIDAY, JUNE 17, 1887 Rooke - near Cottonwood, June 9, 1887, Markie Rooke, aged 5 years. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God". Allow me to chronicle the death of a sweet little friend, Markie Rooke, whose brief life of 5 years ended on the night of June 9, 1887. his parents, brothers and "sister" with stricken hearts have given back the baby, the idol of the household to the father who gave for them "his only begotten son". Very incomplete seem these short lives, and yet they are not so if that life is most complete, which has best fulfilled the mission which god gave it in this world. The children who go all too soon for parental love, have never broken God's law, nor rejected his son. Many a parent with weary feet, but longing heart is following the Shepard, who leads the way carrying the lambs in his bosom. When we reclaim our little ones in the heavenly fold, and dwell with them in the fullness of his presence there, we shall know better then we do now, the meaning of their lives here, and of our own bereaved hearts. "What I do now thou knowest not, but thou shalt know hereafter." There are hopes of other years. Banished now in pain and tears, There are forms dear to us fallen low: But we'll meet again up there. In that haven bright and fair, and live o'er again the sweet long ago. A. Friend of M.A.N. |
