Lewiston Tribune ObituariesRay F. Sarbacher, 78, GrangevilleSaturday, February 22, 2003 Ray F. Sarbacher, 78, of Grangeville passed away at his home Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, surrounded by his family. Ray was born April 19, 1924, in Ferdinand to John C. and Anna Steiger Sarbacher. He attended school at Icicle Flats in Ferdinand. Ray entered the U. S. Army Air Corps in September 1943 and was a crew member aboard a B-29 bomber. He was honorably discharged in March 1946. He married Evelyn Nuxoll May 7, 1946. He moved to Grangeville in 1948 to engage in sawmill work. He retired in 1984 as the planing plant supervisor for Wicks Forest Industries. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, past grand knight with the Knights of Columbus and past president of the Sts. Peter and Paul Parent-Teacher Association and the Campfire Group. He was a charter member of the PL & HT Credit Union and was later its treasurer and manager when it was known as Pine Tree Community Credit Union. Ray was also past state director of the Idaho Credit Union League. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn; children Richard and Gary Sarbacher and Carolyn Haning and husband Bob, all of Grangeville, Diane Rowland of Post Falls, Idaho, and Darlene Sarbacher and Mark Brooks of Clarkston; grandchildren Tami and Charlie Quick of Grangeville, Jill Wagner of Moscow and Jessica Rowland of Post Falls; two great-grandchildren, Bethann and Anthony Quick of Grangeville; brother Wilbert Sarbacher of Elk City; sisters Norma Bruegeman of Grangeville and Alma Poxleitner of Keuterville. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Bryan and Jennifer Haning. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday at Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville. Rosary recitation will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Grangeville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The family asks that donations be sent to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in memory of Ray. |
