Census Records for the
Poor Farm
|
June
11, 1900 Census Poor Farm - Mt.
Idaho Precinct
Russell
H. Rice was said to be the time keeper at the Poor Farm in 1900.
In this listing, there are boarders listed in his household.
It is believed that these individuals were housed in the Poor Farm at
this time, even though the census does not state that.
The
household consists of the following: |
Russell H. Rice Head |
Jennie M. Rice Wife |
Gertrude Rice Daughter |
John Malone Boarder - Age 68
Born April 1832 Ireland |
George Shafer Boarder Age

|
April,
1910 - Mt. Idaho Precinct, Idaho County, Idaho
The
census does not indicate that this is the Idaho County Poor Farm, as it has in
all the other census records. I have searched extensively through the
census and feel very confident that the following record for 1910 are indeed
Poor Farm individuals. These individuals are listed right next door to
John Byers and his family, who was said to be leasing the Poor Farm at the
time. Please correct me if this information is wrong. |

**Individuals housed at
the Poor Farm were sometimes labeled as "Inmates". This seems to
be a very harsh label to placed on them. They were not prisoners (with perhaps
an occasional exception) - they were merely poor people who had no where to go
and no means to exist,, old people with no family to turn to for care, or people
that were turned away by their families and had no other place to
turn. |
